RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT THE TAIWAN BLACK BEARS

RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT THE TAIWAN BLACK BEARS

Conservation Fair in Taipei City from Saturday, 19 October to Sunday, 20 October

TAIWAN, Friday 18 October 2019 - Because the country has such a high endemic species, active conservation plans to cherish and protect these rare and renowned species so we can create a sustainable and harmonious co-existence is definitely necessary.

This week, on Saturday, 19 October 2019, there will be a parade in Taipei city, a march for unity in conservation of our nature and endangered species. The Taiwan Black Bear Conservation Association (TBBCA) is a proud participant, walking to educate the nation in making our land to be a more friendlier terrain for the endangered black bears.

Black Bears are a national symbol in Taiwan, with Taipei city even adopting a black bear named “Bravo” as its mascot. In a CNN Travel article last June, Professor Mei-Hsiu Hwang, the Institute of Wildlife Conservation at Taiwan's National Pingtung University of Science and Technology points out that there are an estimated of just 200 and 600 black bears left over the entire island.

The public parade this Saturday followed by a conservation exhibition fair that TBBCA will be participating will serve as a platform to spread the awareness on the black bears, its conservation efforts and how the public can lend their hand to support this effort.

The march on Saturday, 19 October will begin from Zhongxiao East Road and Section 4 to Guangfu South Road, then onto Renai Road and finally ending up at the venue of the fair that will be held at the Taipei City Front Square. Meanwhile, the Conservation Fair is expected to last two days starting Saturday, 19 October 2019 from 2.00pm to 8.00 pm and ending on Sunday, 20 October 2019 from 11.00 am till 5.00 pm.

The fair will have more than 130 vendors, many of them from animal conservation associations taking part aside from TBBCA. The public are encouraged to spend the entire day browsing, learning and lending a helping hand to these conservation activities where they can. There will also be food stalls, coffee shops and many other activity booths that will also be set up to keep the fair visitors entertained.

As a special call out, we urge you to visit the TBBCA booth at A1-01 where we would love to talk to you about the work done to help the endangered black bears of Taiwan and how you can now leave your mark in the conservation efforts. Our official commercial fundraisers from SupportWorks would be around to help you understand the campaigns we have in place and inspire you to contribute to the endeavour that helps to ensure these conservation plans protects our black bears.

We look forward to meeting you this weekend!
